These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of NotarySlot ("Platform", "we", "us") at notaryslot.com. By accessing or using NotarySlot, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
1. Description of Service
NotarySlot is an online marketplace that connects clients seeking notary services with independent, state-licensed notary publics. We are a technology platform, not a notary service. All notarizations are performed by independent notaries who are solely responsible for compliance with applicable state laws.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years of age to use NotarySlot. By using the Platform, you represent that you meet this requirement and have the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements.
3. Notary Listings
Notaries who list services on NotarySlot ("Notary Members") agree to:
- Maintain a valid, active notary commission in their state at all times
- Provide accurate credential and contact information
- Honor booked appointments or provide reasonable advance notice of cancellation
- Charge only the fees listed at the time of booking
- Comply with all state notary laws and ethical guidelines
- Connect a Stripe account to receive payouts
4. Bookings and Payments
When you book an appointment:
- You authorize us to charge your payment method for the total amount shown (notary fee + $7 platform fee)
- Your payment is processed by Stripe; by completing a booking you also agree to Stripe's Terms of Service
- The notary receives their fee minus Stripe processing fees; NotarySlot retains the platform fee
- Bookings are confirmed immediately upon successful payment
5. Cancellations and Refunds
- Client cancellations 24+ hours in advance: Full refund of notary fee; platform fee is non-refundable
- Client cancellations within 24 hours: Refund at notary's discretion; platform fee non-refundable
- Notary cancellations: Full refund including platform fee
- No-shows by client: No refund; notary retains fee
Refund requests must be submitted within 7 days of the appointment to support@notaryslot.com.
6. Notary Independence
Notaries listed on NotarySlot are independent contractors, not employees or agents of NotarySlot. We do not supervise, direct, or control their notarization activities. NotarySlot is not responsible for the notary's performance, errors, or compliance with notary laws.
7. Prohibited Uses
You may not use NotarySlot to:
- Facilitate fraudulent, forged, or illegal document notarization
- Misrepresent your identity or credentials
- Spam, harass, or abuse notaries or clients
- Circumvent our payment system to book directly after initial contact through our platform
- Scrape, copy, or replicate our platform or database
8. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NOTARYSLOT SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE PLATFORM OR ANY NOTARIZATION PERFORMED THROUGH IT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US IN THE 12 MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.
9. Disclaimers
THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT NOTARIES ARE LICENSED, THAT NOTARIZATIONS WILL BE LEGALLY EFFECTIVE IN ALL JURISDICTIONS, OR THAT THE PLATFORM WILL BE ERROR-FREE.
10. Dispute Resolution
Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of NotarySlot shall be resolved by binding arbitration under the American Arbitration Association's Consumer Arbitration Rules, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property violations.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, without regard to conflict of law principles.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms at any time. We will provide 30 days' notice of material changes via email. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
